Geese
This was Dalila, our Buff Goose We will get a pair of Buff Geese again, maybe in 2010 The American Buff Goose is considered to be endangered. They were developed in North America as a farm goose. They are typically 14-16 pounds-geese, and 16-20 pounds-ganders. They normally lay an average of 28 eggs per year, and are naturally good parents. Since we have a pair of one Buff and one Lavender, we should get buff, blue and lavender offspring. We will in the future have mating pairs in each of the 3 colors. This is our start, and we are very pleased. **We have unfortunatley lost both our original geese to preditors. Our female, to coyotes, and our male to the neighbor dogs. Needless to say, we are investing in a gaurdian dog this winter. For the protection of Poultry and goats!** |
Dave and Mille were so kind in helping us find a new pair of Geese! We are excited to say, we have a gorgeous pair or American BLUES. This is a special breed Dave, himself developed, right here in Oregon. I beleive they are the same type of goose as the American Buffs. They are tamer than our last pair was. Their sound is a bit higher pitched, but still quiet, in my oppinion, as geese go. I am very excited to see goslings this Spring! We are still learning, so hopefully having read Dave's Book will help our success in breeding this year. Our thanks to Dave and Mille at Holderread's Water Fowl Farm, for providing such exceptional birds for us to start our waterfowl adventure with!
